1000 Hours Cosmetology Program

This is a 1000-hour program. You will be prepared to take the state board exam. You will finish in 6 to 8 months. At CC's Beauty Institute you will be prepared to work in the salon. Students will learn to do sew in weaves and some trendy hair styles. We will visit hair shows and compete in hair competitions. Student's will have the opportunity to do client's hair. You will receive hands on experience. The next class starts in person 3/2/26 Registration is open! Space is limited!

 

You will learn about marketing, business, financial literacy and be prepared to take the state board exam. You will do a combination of online and face to face learning.

Tuition and Admissions Process 

Tuition assistance is available through DARS and WIOA. Online education will be taught through google classroom, zoom and CIMA. Students must register and show ID for the online program. Online students will learn through zoom, google classroom, and onsite training in person. Students will be required to have a laptop. Students will receive a log in profile for google classroom. Students will be asked to keep their cameras on during online training. The chapters that will be offered online are highlighted in the curriculum. Orientation will be offered online and in person. Out of state students are welcome to attend.

 

Tuition Price Cosmetology Kit $2,000 (includes supplies needed for state board, shears, mannequins, & styling tools)

 

CIMA/Textbook/Technology Fee $500 (Online software for classroom digital portal, textbook, and free Wi-Fi at school during class)

 

Academic Cosmetology Training $11,500 (Includes practical and theory training and preparation for the state board exam)

 

Tuition Total $14,000

✨ Class Schedule Overview

March 1, 2026 – April 11, 2026

  • Online coursework: Complete all Foundations Chapters online.

April 14, 2026, and onward

  • Transition to Hybrid learning (a blend of in‑person and online instruction).

  • All practical assignments must be completed in person.

  • Wednesday–Friday: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

  • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Zoom Tue 8pm -10pm 

  • In‑person attendance is mandatory.

  • Virtual learning students must log on the required hours in order to 

✂️ Hands‑On Training

  • This is a hands‑on program with required in‑person participation.

  • You will receive state board preparation training.

  • Students will gain real‑world experience by performing hair services on clients.

  • Students will receive Chi Color training with Farouk Systems, Inc.

  • Students will receive hands on acrylic and gel nails training. 

  • Students will receive hands on waxing training.

  • Students will receive hand on barbering training. 

  • Students will receive hands on makeup training.

Online Theory Requirement
Online theory instruction is intensive. Students are required to log in five (5) days per week to complete assigned modules. Required hours and academic credit will not be awarded if a student fails to log in five days per week and adhere to the online schedule.

Online theory hours cannot be earned during in-person practical training.

Students may make monthly payments.  Payments may vary depending on how much you put down.

Online Learning: CIMA an online Portal operated by Milady, Zoom and Google Classroom.

1000-hour Cosmetology Curriculum Requirements

1. Orientation and business topics - minimum of 45 hours of instruction.

a. School policies;

b. Management;

c. Sales, inventory, and retailing.

d. Taxes and payroll;

e. Insurance;

f. Client records and confidentiality; and

g. Professional ethics and practices.

 

2. Laws and regulations - minimum of 10 hours of instruction.

 

3. General sciences - minimum of 55 hours of instruction.

a. Principles and practices of infection control;

b. Safety Data Sheet(SDS);and

c. Chemical usage and safety.

 

4. Applied sciences - minimum of 40 hours of instruction to include anatomy, physiology, and histology.

 

5. Shampooing, rinsing, and scalp treatments for all hair types, including textured hair - minimum of 25 hours of instruction.

a. Client consultation and analysis; and

b. Procedures, manipulations, and treatments.

 

6. Hair styling for all hair types, including textured hair minimum of 65 hours of instruction.

a. Fingerwaving, molding, and pin curling;

b. Roller curling, combing, and brushing; and

c. Heat curling, waving, and pressing.

 

7. Hair cutting for all hair types, including textured hair minimum of 125 hours of instruction.

a. Fundamentals, materials, and equipment; and

b. Procedures.

 

8. Permanent waving and chemical relaxing for all hair types, including textured hair - minimum of 135 hours of instruction.

a. Chemistry;

b. Supplies and equipment; and

c. Procedures and practical application.

 

9. Hair coloring and bleaching for all hair types, including textured hair - minimum of 190 hours of instruction. a. Basic color theory; b. Supplies and equipment; and c. Procedures and practical application.

 

10. Wigs, hair pieces, and related theory - minimum of 15 hours of instruction.

a. Types; and

b. Procedures.

 

 

11. Manicuring and pedicuring - minimum of 75 hours of instruction.

a. Nail theory, nail structure, and composition;

b. Nail procedures, including manicuring, pedicuring, and nail extensions; and

c. Electric filing.

 

12. Skin care - minimum of 150 hours of instruction.

a. Client skin analysis and consultation;

b. Effleurage and related movements and manipulations of the face;

c. Cleansing procedures;

d. Masks; e. Extraction techniques;

f. Machines avoiding direct contact with the skin;

g. Equipment avoiding direct contact with the skin;

h. Electricity avoiding direct contact with the skin;

i. Manual facials and treatments; and

 j. General procedures and safety measures.

 

13. Lashes and brows - minimum of 35 hours of instruction:

a. Setup, supplies, and implements;

b. Consultation;

c. Application of false lashes and lash extensions;

d. Lash and brow tinting;

e. Lash perming;

 f. Lightening of the hair on the body except scalp; and

g. General procedures and safety measures.

 

 

14. Hair removal - minimum of 35 hours of instruction:

a. Client consultation and analysis;

b. Waxing;

c. Mechanical hair removal;

d. Tweezing and threading; and

e. Chemical hair removal.

The Cosmetology Transfer Portal is open!

If you have 520 hours or more, you may enter the transfer portal.

Tuition for transfer students $3,900 

Kit $2,000

CIMA $500

Total $6,400

If you have less than 520 hours the tuition will vary.

You must take an assessment. The assessment is $250. (Must pass with 75% in order to transfer)

The transfer portal is open 

You can complete the program in three to four months or less.

Out of State students are welcome for the Cosmetology program.

Students must complete the practical portion in person.

A portion of theory will be completed online.

Students will be prepared to take the Virginia State Board Exam.

Online/hybrid Program Blended Learning

You may transfer up to 700 hours. The last 300 hours must be completed at CC's Beauty Institute LLC.
